I have dreamed of going to India since I was little. When I was in college, I had an opportunity to spend a semester there, but a change of majors and a dash of financial strain got in the way. I still haven’t been, but it’s on the list. Really. Riding an elephant in India is on my Life List (which is like a bucket list, but less depressing).

I thought I’d do things a little differently for this edition of Colors of. I just completed my first board on Pinterest! And I want to share my very first pins with you, reflecting the colors of India.

One of my favorite home accessories is the garden stool, especially when brought inside. They’re so handy, and can be used for a small table next to the bed or as auxiliary seating in the living room. Double-duty furniture at its best. And I always love the idea of bringing outdoor elements inside.

Here is a tiny showcase of ways to use the garden stool indoors and, since there are so many fun options out there to suit every style, there’s a handy round-up of sources at the end. As always, click pics for sources.

That last photo features a couple of worn, vintage garden stools. I love the country flair they give the table. So different from the modern examples above.

The title of this post would make a great romance novel title, no? Sorry, this one’s actually about textiles, namely velvet. Last night I was browsing through some of the other design blogs I follow (see ever-expanding blogroll to the right) when I came across this:

I called out to the tall guy, “Why don’t we have a velvet sofa?” which was met with this response, “Yeah, you should really get on that.”

Indeed. Does anything say luxury like soft velvet? Well, diamonds, fancy vacations, and expensive cars, sure. But for affordable luxury, velvet is an easy winner. It’s soft, often richly hued, and comes in all shapes and styles.

I just love a blue room. Deep, rich, royal blue, navy, aqua…I love them all. When we painted my little guy’s room, we went with a dreamy, outer space sort of blue, inspired by this:

I’d happily paint every room in the house a different shade of blue if I could manage to make it look cohesive. Instead, the library is already a rich relaxing green and I’m busy looking up inspiration for the living room walls, which will most definitely be some shade of blue…unless I go with gray. This morning I got an ad from Pier1 in my inbox. It asked me if I wanted to “take it outside.” I did. That inspired me to continue collecting ideas in celebration of the approaching warm weather. I can’t wait to get outside more — bike rides, chillin’ on the porch swing…ahhh. Now, if we could just get rid of all this snirt (snow + dirt = snirt).
