gorgeous photo from Grey Likes Weddings
(I know, it’s Thursday. I had the most scattered day yesterday so didn’t get to post…here’s what I intended to post, a bit tardy.)
It seems as though wedding bloggers don’t get offered book deals as often as other design bloggers. I follow several wedding blogs that are just ripe with material for a good how-to-craft-an-awesome-wedding-that-will-knocks-your-family’s-socks-off book. (That’s what I would call my wedding book.)
Say, Green Wedding Shoes, 100 Layer Cake, and Grey Likes Weddings. These are seriously talented people who’ve devoted themselves to helping us express our devotion to our loved ones (and also throw a kickass party). They have devoted readers too.
The point is, if any of these folks wrote a book, I’d snap it up and read it, even if it was released after my wedding.
For now, I’ve satisfied myself by coming the interwebs for some lovely wedding thomes. I have not read any of these, but guess they might be worth checking out. Let me know if you’ve read them – I will be on my own hunt for inspiration until July 28th…(Yep, right up to the actual day because that’s just the kind of matrimonial maniac I am.)

A favorite summer costume…
Topshop, Calypso St. Barth, Miss Selfridge
Wear them with:
sandals, belt, necklace, snood, bag
Or, you know, pretty much anything you want. Flowy white dresses go with everything–wedges, cowboy boots, combat boots, bare feet, a geometric bracelet, chandelier earrings, a cropped vest, a canvas tote… Just a few ideas.

from the Poloroid Magic series
and hey, there’s Jeanine, doing what she loves!
I first got to know Jeanine Caron of Wonderings and Wanderings through her column on Gypsy Girls Guide. She’s smart, funny, well-traveled, and an all around cool person. Her blog is filled with her truly lovely photography and personal stories that tug at the heartstrings. Since I myself have many travel aspirations and admire her photography too, I was happy to invite her over for a little q&a session. To my great delight, she accepted!
Have you been formally trained as a photographer? (If so, where, and which degrees do you have, etc, etc?)
No, I have not. I wish I’d chosen the Arts in University but I studied Environmental Sciences & Applied Zoology instead.
I didn’t really pick up a camera until I started blogging. I needed something to complement my words and it soon became an addiction. And like anything, I got better with practice (I cringe when I look at my first photos).
Have you always loved taking pictures? What do you love most about it?
I seriously started taking photos in 2003 but it’s not until I bought my Pentax K1000 that I truly fell in love with photography.
I love that I am forced to slow down when I shoot film. It feels like a more conscious and intentional approach to photography. It makes me pay attention. I love the anticipation of getting a roll of film developed. And I love the sound! There is no better sound in the world than the shutter releasing on a Pentax K1000 and the clicking as you advance the film.
Wellies are full of win, The chimneys of London
You’ve been all over the world. What calls you to travel?
Bill Bryson once said: “To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”
I think that says it all for me.
Is there a place you never expected to go…then did? How was it?
I never expected to go to Iceland but I was in a long distance relationship with my (now) husband and Iceland was an island between the two of us. It seemed only apt that we should meet up there after months apart. Our rendez-vous, incidentally, happened to be in the middle of the ash cloud fiasco. It’s a wonder we ever landed. And it was one of the best trips of my life.
Iceland casts a spell on you within moments of arriving. The light there is silver and the landscape feels prehistoric, like it belongs to another world reminiscent of something out of a Tolkien novel. And time tricks you because the sun never fully sets in the Spring; its enthusiasm is contagious and almost seduces you into staying up all night. And there’s nothing quite as blissful as sitting next to your lover in a hot spring heated by the earth’s very core while there is still snow on the ground all around you. Or wading like a ghost in the milky waters of the Blue Lagoon on a cold misty morning with white silica mud on your face. And if you close your eyes for 5 minutes and open them again, you have turned a corner and entered completely new surroundings: a blue grey ocean, rolling hills (mustard colored in April, with the promise of green come June), rugged mountains cutting their niche in the sky, moss covered lava fields, small but mighty Icelandic horses roaming the land, geysers shooting up, waterfalls crashing down. Iceland leaves an everlasting impression on your soul; an imprint on your heart. So much so that many people have claimed it to be the one place they would love to return to. Myself included.
Godly, Reykjavik, from I really believe series
How would you describe your artistic aesthetic?
Light and still life. Little pieces of a whole. Glimpses of daily life.
Life is full of little wonders and there is nothing so mundane that it doesn’t hold a glimmer of awesome. I want to be in awe of the small moments, amazed by the light, the spoon on the counter, the crumpled sheets, the sun coming in through the blinds, the hot cup of tea — the little things that make up a day. When I am out with my camera I am, in fact, practicing the art of seeing things as if for the first time — with wonder. This is the gift of photography.
Are you working on a particular project right now?
I’m writing a book proposal about the serendipitous encounter and subsequent marriage of a British boy and a Canadian girl. I figure I was lucky enough to be handed this love story and it is my duty to write about it.
What music are you listening to these days?
The National, Bombay Bicycle Club, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Patrick Watson, Little Dragon. I am a music fiend, always searching for new sounds. I even have a tumblr account dedicated solely to music http://jcaron.tumblr.com/
Name three things that inspire you…
light
music
confident women
What are your hobbies and interests outside of your work?
Photography and writing are still hobbies for me but I hope to change that someday.
Ok, you’re stranded on a desert island. Which five things can’t you live without?
My Pentax
My iPhone (Instagram is like crack to me)
Red wine
Music
My husband
Anything else you’d like to add: Thank you.
Thank you, Jeanine, for spending some time with us. All images are Jeanine’s. Visit her at Wonderings and Wanderings. Isn’t that the perfect blog title? And please, feast your eyes on her portfolio. Her images are beautiful.

Isn’t it fun when all you have to do is make a wish aloud to have it come true? A few weeks ago the Tall Guy, a soccer buff and former player, and I, not a soccer buff by any stretch, were hanging out on the couch watching some soccer. (He was watching. I was half-watching and embroidering.) I found myself getting kind of into the game and mentioned that I’d like to go to a professional soccer game and wouldn’t that be fun? Yes, he said, that would be fun. I recalled that one of my Life List entries is to be a spectator at ten sports matches/games.
Several days later the Tall Guy emailed me at work to say he had a chance to put in for some tickets to a Chicago Fire game on Father’s Day. Did I want in? Hell yes! Thus, last Sunday, we joined a vendor-sponsored bus trip to Chicago–my boys and me and some friends, the Tall Guy’s co-workers.
We sat in a sky box, ate some great food, splurged at the dessert cart (yep, they bring a dessert cart around–I knew I liked soccer players), and got down to field level for some photo ops.

It so happened that the previous day, the Tall Guy facilitated the fulfillment of another Life List goal: Aquire a DSLR camera and learn to use it. That brilliant man and I headed to a local camera shop where he forked over the funding for such a camera. (I have been showering him with an unreasonable amount of affection ever since.) I’m still working on the “learn to use it” part (getting lots of good tips here).
Thus, I was able to capture one Life List memory through the power of another. I feel so grateful (I’m lookin’ at you, Universe).
Part of our soccer extravaganza included a visit with defender Austin Berry. And the Little Guy hung out with Sparky too. (Get it? Fire…Sparky…yeah.)

You may be wondering–what’s the big deal about sports events? And if you know me really well, you’re probably like, “What gives?” True, I’m usually only good for Notre Dame games and Cubs on TV, and some mixed martial arts due to the Tall Guy’s interest. I don’t play sports either.
But I love attending professional matches. The stakes feel high and the athletes are the best–that’s why they do it for a living. The atmosphere holds a lot of energy and there is usually some kind of partying involved. (You know I’m always down for a party.) Also, I want the Little Guy to see as much of life as possible, especially the fun stuff. So, that’s why.
What about you? How’s your Life List coming along?

Oh, glorious Friday! How are you? Was it a good week? It’s been busy as all get out around here. A lot of to-dos getting done. Some ideas being tossed around. A good deal of craftiness–wedding crafts to be exact.
Meanwhile, it just warms my lil’ boho heart to witness this tribal trend. I covet that beautiful stool.

We are lucky enough to live right up the street from a great park which, every year, hosts a local art fair. Well, it’s mostly local but this year I noticed vendors from such faraway lands as Arizona and Ohio. Wow.
We found some good stuff.
These sweet little pots tempted me.

I loved the pottery and glass lanterns in so many pretty colors.

That image of the two bowl-y looking pieces of pottery is apparently a style of raku where, as my neighbor explained it, “they put a bunch of shit in a bowl–leaves, sticks, whatever–and fire it.”
There were some lovely oil paintings.

It’s cool when the artist puts out the pallette they used.
Oh! Look what the Little Guy found.

He’s pretty artsy, but he mainly goes for the elephant ears. I like to think he’s soaking in the atmosphere too.
While we’re art fair-ing, I’d just like to point you to this one, which the Tall Guy and I stumbled upon last year while in Chicago for a concert. It’s good. You’d like it.
